Optimize Network Performance with D3.1Enhanced

In today’s challenging economic environment, it’s more important than ever to ensure your current HFC access cable network assets are fully optimized to provide maximum performance, speeds, and capacities.

Not all network optimization scenarios, though, are equally viable. And not all network architectures need to evolve at the same pace.

D.31Enhanced (D3.1E) is an economical way to monetize existing network assets while optimizing your network’s performance. A D3.1E deployment supports maximum throughput speeds of up to 8 Gbps in the downstream in targeted areas of your network, enabling you to increase ARPU and keep pace with your competition economically and efficiently. With D3.1E, you can get the most out of mid-split and high-split network upgrades without resorting to costly rebuilds or disruptive service outages.

D3.1E: An Introduction

D3.1E doesn’t require costly or extensive improvements or upgrades to your existing network. Instead, D3.1E uses DOCSIS 3.1+ or DOCSIS 4.0 CPE devices to expand downstream capacity and increase speed tiers to your subscribers’ homes in mid-split and high-split networks. Which CPE device you choose to deploy depends on your network upgrade plans:

  • If you’re planning to operate a DOCSIS® 3.0 or 3.1 network for the foreseeable future, then you can deploy DOCSIS 3.1+ CPE devices
  • If you’re planning to upgrade your network to support DOCSIS 4.0 operation, then you can deploy DOCSIS 4.0 CPE devices in your current network (after equipping them with the proper diplex filters and/or switches) and future-proof your network for full DOCSIS 4.0 deployments

Both types of CPE devices utilize advanced chipsets that support up the bonding of 4 OFDM channels and 32 SC-QAMs in the downstream path and five OFDM channels (without SC-QAMs) in mid-split and high-split networks, whereas previous generation DOCSIS 3.1 CPE devices supported only two OFDM channels and 32 SC-QAM.
