Airvana, a leading provider of small cell solutions, today announced its OneCell™ system was named the winner in the “In-Building Wireless – Small Cell, Wi-Fi, LAN” category of CTIA’s annual Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Awards competition. Announced at Super Mobility Week 2014, the E-Tech Awards winners represent the most innovative emerging mobile services, solutions and technology from areas such as the cloud, network equipment, M2M and the Internet of Things.
OneCell is a groundbreaking, LTE small cell system that delivers consistent, superior LTE performance throughout enterprises and public spaces including office buildings, hospitals, shopping centers, and airports with the economics and simplicity of managed Wi-Fi. Based on cloud RAN principles, the OneCell system consists of a Baseband Controller and multiple Radio Points to form a single super cell that delivers consistently high quality LTE service across indoor spaces ranging from 50,000 to 1,000,000 square feet without handovers or inter-cell interference issues, and supports multi-operator deployments.
“We are honored that CTIA has recognized our innovative approach to delivering a cost-effective small cell system that provides a high-quality enterprise LTE user experience,” said Rod Gatehouse, vice president of marketing and business development for Airvana. “Enterprises and mobile operators are recognizing the difference of a simple, low cost IT deployment model, and we’re excited that OneCell is helping to dramatically improve LTE performance while ensuring support for evolving LTE-Advanced capabilities.”
OneCell supports plug-and-play deployment over standard Ethernet cabling and switches, eliminating the need for proprietary networks or expensive optical links. Further, its unique small cell cloud RAN architecture dramatically simplifies radio frequency planning and integration with wireless macro networks.
Along with CTIA’s two other awards programs, Hot for the Holidays and MobITs Awards, there were almost 300 entries submitted and scored by more than 50 industry experts, analysts and media.
