Sustainability is no longer a “nice to have” feature of a product or company. Sustainable business practices and products are now differentiators in the marketplace and will only increase in importance as we head into the next decade. I am happy to report that CommScope has made significant strides in sustainability and managing our environmental impact over the last few years. We are meeting and exceeding the standards that we and our customers expect of us. Here are some recent achievements and validations of our progress.
Sustainability Ratings Improve
Multiple organizations that track sustainability performance have recently recorded higher ratings for CommScope compared to last year. For example:
- CommScope is now classed at “Leadership Level” in CDP’s Climate Change scorecard with a score of “A-.” CDP’s scoring measures the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks and best practices associated with environmental leadership.
- Sustainalytics on Yahoo Finance has upped CommScope’s rating to “low risk” for 2020. This performance rating is intended to help investors measure a company’s exposure to industry-specific, material ESG (Environment, Sustainability, Governance) risks.
Additionally, Newsweek and Statista have named CommScope to their list of America’s Most Responsible Companies for a second year in a row. America’s Most Responsible Companies are selected based on publicly available key performance indicators derived from CSR reports, sustainability reports, and corporate citizenship reports as well as an independent survey of U.S. residents. The final list recognizes the top 400 most responsible companies in the United States across 14 different industry subcategories.

CommScope is also helping our customers win sustainability awards. Our congratulations go out to Liberty Global, the world's largest international TV and broadband company, for receiving the 2020 Video Tech Innovation Award in Sustainability for their Mini TV Box. CommScope co-developed the Mini TV Box streamer with Liberty Global, who call it the “greenest-ever set-top box.”
Looking Ahead: Renewable Energy
CommScope is proud of our sustainability achievements so far, but we aim for more. We continue to explore options for delivering significant, long-term greenhouse gas emission reductions across our company. Already, CommScope reduces greenhouse gas emissions by optimizing our manufacturing materials and processes and more efficiently managing our facilities. We continue to use renewable energy at many of our sites and are looking to expand in this area in 2021 and beyond.

I look forward to reporting on more sustainability success and improvements in 2021 as we work with our suppliers, partners and customers to build our world back together better.
