I’ve been to BICSI five times, and I bring some nuggets of learning home with me every year. No, really!
Take for example, sound masking. It is the addition of sound created by special digital generators and distributed by normally unseen speakers through an area to reduce distractions or provide confidentiality where needed. Some people call this white noise. I was vaguely aware of it, but now I am able to see that those speakers are becoming PoE (Power over Ethernet) devices connected by structured cabling. That is absolutely something we can address with a CommScope solution and it is something I can bring back to my team to investigate. That’s the great thing about BICSI: you get more intelligence on what’s available or what’s “trending” in the marketplace.
I talk more about what I learned below. What did you bring home from BICSI this year? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
