A fantastic accolade for CommScope’s Masood Shariff

There are those who work in the cabling and enterprise industry and then there are those who serve the industry. Masood Shariff is one of the latter. He tirelessly works to improve how data travels, thus making communication better for all of us. In this blog, we take a moment to honor Masood and mention his recent accolade he’s received from the American National Standards Institute.

How passionate is he for this industry? Well, he represents CommScope on various standards committees such as:

  • IEEE 802.3 standards, ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 25/WG 3 Information Technology- Generic Cabling for Premises standards
  • TIA TR42 Engineering Committee developing premises cabling standards.

He chaired the TIA TR42.7 for many years and was responsible for copper cabling systems specifications, including Category 5e, category 6, Category 6A, and TSB-162-A on WLAN cabling.

You want more, okay then. He’s chaired the:

  • ANSI/TIA-5017 physical network security project
  • TIA TSB-5018 DAS cabling project
  • ISO/IEC TS 29125 project on cabling for remote powering (Powering over Ethernet)
  • ISO/IEC TR 11801-9904 project for cabling supporting IEEE 802.3 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T applications

Masood even serves on the NEC Code Making Panel 16 responsible for chapter 800 on Communications Systems.

It is this determination and dedication to the industry that we at CommScope are proud that Masood was one of this year’s recipients of the Edward Lohse Information Technology Medal from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). This medal, presented to Masood last month, honors an individual who has participated in the development of information technology standards both at the national and international levels, demonstrated leadership in the promotion of such standards within the information technology standards community and fostered cooperation among the bodies involved in global standardization.

“What makes Masood an invaluable member of the global standards community is that he exemplifies all the qualities that are essential to promote consensus,” said Matias Peluffo, Asia/Pacific director, Data Center and Inside Plant Fiber Solutions, CommScope. “His unique ability to bring together opposing perspectives and resolve differences is extremely effective, removing barriers that may otherwise hamper progress or limit broad market adoption and harmonization of standards.”

From everyone at CommScope, congratulations, Masood, on this fantastic accolade.
