Verizon Wireless Vets ION-E Enterprise Wireless Solution from CommScope

Verizon Wireless has vetted and certified the performance of CommScope’s ION-E® in-building wireless solution for business enterprises, approving it for use in the operator’s nationwide network.

“The CommScope ION-E is a unique tool for building, facility and real estate managers that can play a significant role in addressing in-building wireless needs strategically and cost-effectively,” said Dennis McColl, PMTS–Maintenance Engineering, Verizon Wireless.

CommScope specifically designed the ION-E to meet the needs of businesses looking for superior cellular service indoors. With only about two percent of the world’s approximately 30 billion square meters of commercial real estate covered from the inside, that is a significant number of enterprises.

The ION-E utilizes the fiber-optic and Ethernet structured cabling architecture common to many enterprises, making it easier for IT professionals to deploy. The simple user interface enables easy setup and configuration while being flexible and scalable for future needs. Considering there is a lack of people who have RF design expertise, business owners can use the ION-E to empower IT professionals to deploy an in-building wireless system.

The ION-E also offers advantages to wireless operators, being technology agnostic while supporting multiple operators and frequency bands. Wireless operators can support their 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE frequency bands in one unified platform. The ION-E easily scales to support buildings from 5,000 to 500,000 square meters and eliminates the need for costly infrastructure and equipment upgrades.

“The ION-E offers flexibility, scalability and simplicity to enterprises and network operators for meeting the rapidly changing in-building coverage and capacity demand,” said Ben Cardwell, senior vice president, Wireless, CommScope. “We are thrilled that Verizon Wireless has validated the ION-E’s performance and taken the next step forward in making it ready to be deployed in their network.”

Verizon Wireless is the first North American wireless operator to add the ION-E to its approved product list. Telecom Italia certified and installed the ION-E in one of the operator’s offices in Rome earlier this year. ION-E systems are currently being deployed for enterprise customers in Denmark, France and the Netherlands.
